I left Workington in 1966, so can remember it as shown in the photos. On my first visit back in 1975 I decided that the Central Hotel would be a good place to catch up with old friends, but found Tescos wall in its place. An icon replaced by an eyesore I said at the time.

What a thrill to see Ethel's video reminiscences, how more vibrant Workington was long ago, with the many shops, market traders,churches,fine buildings, there was everything then it seems. So much for modern advancement, when you see into the past !

After spending a lot of time searching for old local Photo's , this was just brilliant, great to see one of our own doing something like this for us all to watch.

Fantastic pics - great to compare. They would look great published with the later view on the facing page. The poem video is just brilliant; I'm guessing much older resident will love it.
