West Cumbrian man in court on Brigham rape charge

A MARYPORT man has been charged with rape and false imprisonment after a police investigation into a serious sexual assault in Brigham on Friday.

Paul James Richardson, 48, of Park Terrace, will appear at West Allerdale Magistrates Court yesterday morning.

Another man, a 49-year-old from Maryport, who was also arrested on Friday in connection with the incident, has been bailed to return to Workington police station until today.

The police investigation continues and officers are appealing from anyone who was in the High Brigham area at around 12pm on Friday, who thinks they may have seen or heard anything which could assist, to contact West Cumbria CID on 0845 33 00 247 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
