Wimbledon date for Maryport tennis girl

Maryport Tennis Club’s Emily Wise is off to Wimbledon.
The teenager, also a member of Silloth Tennis Club, qualified to play at the world-famous club by winning the Cumbria leg of the National Road to Wimbledon U14 tournament.
Her success at Ulverston will see her play in the week-long national finals at Wimbledon next month.
Wise will be play singles and doubles against 63 other girls and have the chance to experience using the same changing rooms as the stars, get a guided tour of the facilities, attend a players’ party and take part in a coaching session with Tim Henman.
Wise will be the second West Cumbria girl to play at Wimbledown this year.
Daneika Borthwick, of Scales, Aspatria, played in Junior Wimbledon during the Grand Slam tournament.
l Maryport Tennis Club will be holding a free family fun morning on Sunday at the club courts at Netherhall Sports College.
The morning runs from 10am-12noon and will give people the chance to have a go at tennis, use the ball machine and speed gun and generally have lots of fun.
Coach David Wise will be on hand to offer tips on playing and if the morning is successful it will become a regular weekly slot for families to attend.
