Hooker Mattinson set for return for Workington Town

INSPIRATIONAL hooker Graeme Mattinson could be set to return for Workington Town’s do-or-die clash with Oldham at Derwent Park tomorrow (3pm).

Mattinson damaged ankle ligaments in last month’s home win over Barrow and coach Gary Charlton is hoping to have him back in contention.

“We are going in to play-off football now and we’ll only get one chance,” Charlton warned. “We know how to win in knock-out football after reaching a final last year, and hopefully we can go one better.

“If fit enough, Graeme Mattinson will come into consideration. Everyone knows what he can bring to your team, and we are a different team with him on the field. A player knows if he’s up to it, and he’ll hopefully have a run about today and see how he is.”

Top try-scorer Elliott Miller will return following suspension and Brett Carter is likely to be fit to resume following surgery on a muscle tear in his stomach.

“The problem has been repaired and hopefully Brett will get the go-ahead to play. We have missed him,” added Charlton, looking for a fast, open game against the Roughyeds, who have beaten Town home and away this term.

“Our last two games against them have been stop/start. But we know we can play good rugby, and if able to do that, we’ll see if they can handle it.

“Oldham have a great half-back in Jamie Dallimore and Miles Greenwood’s a good full-back. They are a steady team with a pack of forwards who get stuck in. Whoever makes the least mistakes will probably win it.”
