I will not be a one-season Super League wonder, says Cumbrian Lunt

West Cumbrian Super League star Shaun Lunt has revealed he is determined not to be a one-season wonder.

Former Workington Town hooker Lunt had a superb first season in rugby league’s top flight with Huddersfield Giants.

But he is well aware that life could be tougher in 2010 as other teams are now aware of the impact he can have on a game.

The 22-year-old played 21 games for the first team, picking up 15 tries, including one in the Challenge Cup final – only one season after featuring for Town in Championship One.

He then won the Giants’ outstanding achievement award at their end of season presentation evening.

“Last season was fantastic for me, it went better than I could have imagined,” said Lunt.

“But I know that could make next year more difficult. I was new to Super League last season, which was to my advantage because very few people knew about me and what to expect. That’s gone now and I’m sure players will be watching out for me.

“That means next season is going to be tougher so I’m going to have to train even harder to get better. The last thing I want to be is a one-season wonder.”

Lunt is looking forward to returning to training next week under coach Nathan Brown after recovering from an injury to his shoulder that he picked up in the Challenge Cup final.

And also a broken bone in his hand that he suffered against Wigan towards the end of the year.
