It’s good to be back riding again, says Workington speedway star

Workington Comet Kyle Howarth is enjoying being back in the saddle for the team despite not having fully recovered from his injuries sustained three weeks ago.

Howarth injured his foot and back in a spill with Lee Complin in the Comets home match with Berwick that kept him out of action for a couple of weeks.

However, he has only missed one match in that time due to the number of rain offs and made his return against Ipswich last Thursday where he scored a paid 13 points despite not being fully race fit.

He said: “I am not too bad but I am still sore and stiff and the body is still recovering.

“My foot is still swollen and my back hurts but I have just got to get through it and keep going.

“I really enjoyed the Ipswich meeting. I think we have an awesome team and a good bunch of lads and it was nice to be back.”

Howarth does not remember much of his crash but has been annoyed that he has been on the sidelines for something he believes was not his fault.

He said: “It is frustrating because I was enjoying my speedway and Lee didn't have to do that.

“In a way the rain offs have been good for me because I have only missed the one meeting but it is not really good for the team.”

Despite the win over Ipswich Howarth warned that the team cannot afford to get carried away despite the spirit in the camp being at an all time high.

“The team spirit is great as everyone is having a laugh and enjoying it. We know we can finish at the top and Tony [Jackson] and Keith [Denham] have been very good,” he added.

“We are just taking it one match at a time but we have not really had a lot of meetings so it is going to be a busy end to the season.

“However, we have proved to everyone this season that we can go away and win.”
