John Woodcock in bid to be Furness MP

THE Prime Minister’s advisor John Woodcock has been overwhelmingly chosen to contest the Barrow and Furness seat at the next general election – and pledges to fight for jobs at the shipyard.

Have your say

I for one can't wait until this politician knocks at my door. My son has been to Iraq three times and having watched question time on Thursday night I find out that Jack Straws father was in prison for not wanting to rid the world of the Nazis, but was okay to let other peoples fathers, sons, mothers and daughters die for the democratic cause!! How dare the Labour Party preach about the fight for democracy when they themselves are too cowardly to fight alongside our boys and girls who have given so selfishly! I find nearly all MP's are for the most part morally corrupt, but have now highlighted themselves as two faced liars of the first order. Bring it on Woodcock, I want to see just how slimy you will be defending the thieving Westminster brigade! Not just content to steal money from us [the public/expenses scandal] you are going to join those that have stolen young lives also!!!! I thought that MP's couldn't sink any further, but after Thursday night, I realise that there are several levels of low yet to be explored by you and your kind!

So if john Woodcock is elected he will fight for jobs in the Yard.
What a load of hippocritical rubbish,Labour MP's have not fought for one British Job since Brown came to power,Mandy ,Browns partner in the destruction in British manufacturing industries, may have saved a few jobs in the car industries, but very little has been done by these Euro Despots
to keep jobs in Britain.
Brown said not long ago,Britsh Jobs for British workers,if he was true to his word, what has Woodcock got to fight for.
The jobs shouls stay in Barrow automatically, unless Brown has got an alternative motive for Barrow.
Lets say,run Barrow Yard down and let the frech do the work.
I wouldn't trust Brown and his compratiates one inch.
Neither should Barrow workers.

Well done to john woodcock please get behind the man as he won fair and square,no point wingging here on site get off your back side and get the message out,we as a labour should be proud of our achievements.labour deleivered more in 12 years then tories four terms,we facing global economic problem.i know this recession been harsh on some people but we got the right man in charge of country and barrow got a good man to fight their case, lets move on.Thanks.

It certainly does appear to be "jobs for the boys", and in this case literally. Mr Woodcock is just out of his school shorts, like too many of the current Labour and Tory top brass. They lack any gravitas or real life experience to be taken seriously. What, other than an unquestioning knowledge of Labour dogma, does he bring to the public of Barrow?
As for Kat Smith at 24 years old - the mind boggles!

“One message has come across loud and clear from Labour members right across the constituency – we must make jobs and growth for Barrow and Furness in the shipyard and the wider economy our number one priority.”

This might have been true in the 1970's or 1980's but lets face it although still the largest employer in Barrow the shipyard IS NOT the force it was.

Obviously Labour believe that every shipyard employee votes and votes Labour.
This is the same drivel rolled out time and time again but it never gets any better does it?

Mr Woodcock was the safest odds on favourite I've ever seen.

No wonder people don't bother voting. It's a carve up.

How fickle it all is stating he will fight for jobs in the shipyard hoping to sway voters in Barrow, like the Council vote in new blood don't just believe what you hear, everything needs a fresh top down new approach.

Carpetbagger Mr Woodcock may be, but the Tories must not gain Barrow or they’ll have a Commons majority. People can safely vote Labour to stop them without Brown preserving his own majority, whereas in Northallerton voting Labour is too risky. A win there probably maintains a Labour Commons majority, so in Northallerton the Tories must be supported to stop them.

I can't understand why anyone would be surprised by this; democracy is an illusion, and not a very good one at that.

As a Labour party member I am appalled that we have a party insider parachuted in. Jobs for the boys yet again. Cat Smith would have been the ideal candidate, not just for Barrrow but for the party as a whole which needs new thinking and new ideals, not the tired old managerial politics which have got our party into the state it is in.

Well Mr Woodcock don't bother knocking on my door, I won't be voting for you - or, indeed anybody else. The idea of voting and elections is a scam, don't waste your time. Different faces at the door, that's all it is. We live in a one-party state with the illusion of "choice". How about choosing to walk away from the greed and corruption that ALL political groups are infested with? Anybody who supports the status quo by participating in this scam will get exactly what they voted for - more of the same!
