A 71-year-old man has died after suffering a suspected heart attack on the side of Buttermere.

Twenty-five members of Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team were called to the lake shore at 7pm yesterday.

They were joined by First Responders and paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service.

But, despite their best efforts, said it was not possible to revive the man.

His death comes a day after the body of a man was found in the Scar Crags area, below Crag Hill, near Keswick.

Brian Belfield, 63, had been taking part in the Buttermere Sailbeck Fell Run on Sunday.

He was reported missing on Sunday night after failing to return to his hotel.

He was winched from the scene and taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.

Mountain rescue teams and the police searched the area until it became dark.

Eighteen members of Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team were called to the scene to search for Mr Belfield, of Leek, Staffordshire, at 6.40am yesterday. He was found at 9.43am.
