Elise what are you talking about rugby non existant ? we have some of the best rugby league amature clubs going last season had the 9s comp with them doing very well its the council that has let this world cup bid pass us by just like asda.but a better club is needed if Haven need to progress, and its things like a whitehaven bypass that will not help any growth in the town but pass us by. i dont know why the council were trusted to plan a stadium when theyv made a complete pigs ear of the town

Rugby like most things in Whitehaven is non existant; other cities and towns have an ability to look beyond the present and not the past. A all round facility such as the one in Hexham would have made all the difference; something for all. Once again Cumbria really is on the back foot; and when the lights are turned off remember to close the door as well.

Who cares may be now the money will be spent on some other part of west cumbria instead of whitehaven hogging all the cash as per usual, may be the roads in west cumbria could be done up or heres a thought build a by pass round whitehaven then us folk who dont think its the centre of the universe wont have the miss fortune of having to drive anywhere near it. With regard to Neil's comment, it's swings and roundabouts with Whitehaven. When they were doing well in the mid noughties, they were attracting 2000 or more fans, but like a poor performing football team, gates go down when the team does badly. Also the stadium was to be used for football.

brian - As far as I am aware nothing was agreed in writing just verbally in meetings but without detail. All the Miners asked for was detail of what they were agreeing to sign up to. If I came and offered you £250 per week to rent your house would you just move out and let me in without having some sort of document detailing how much was agreed and for what? I don't think so!! I could move in and then just give you £25 per week and tell you that was all I could afford. And where do you get these 1000's of rugby fans from? Both clubs in West Cumbria together struggle to raise 1500.

To be truthful Whitehaven Rugby League team are not very good and not a lot of people go to see them. So why oh why are millions being spent on this white elephant that they probably won't be able to afford to maintain once it's up. Surely the team should be doing well before any investment is made. Seems to me that they have it completely the wrong way around.

So Copeland will loose its community stadium, WRLFC will have to stick with the Rec, Whitehaven Amateurs wont have a new stadium for their dozen or so supporters, The Miners wont get the cash for their land. The longer this tale dragged on the chances for a new stadium being built was dead. To build the stadium in less than 12 months would have been impossible. Because of the geology of the area (the whole Pow beck valley), the stadium would need to be built on piles as there is no bedrock for the foundations, extra costs and time, did the 300k study bring this potential problem up? I dont think they (the council) wanted to build the stadium in the first place!

Mr. Reed,you won't remember me, but I'm one of the 102 people losing their jobs at the former Cumbrian Seafoods in Whitehaven. Your help and support was promised but not forthcoming. Now you've raised your head for another soundbite, maybe some action for us?
