THE Nuclear Decommissioning Authority paid out nearly £3.8million in bonuses last year.
The money was shared out among 315 staff. The average bonus was £11,954.
Figures obtained by The Times under the Freedom of Information Act also show that every one of the NDA’s regular workers received a bonus in 2008 on top of salary payments totalling £19.5million.
On the eve of yesterday’s budget, Susie Squire, the Taxpayers’ Alliance campaign manager, said: “We don’t think anyone in the Civil Service, which is already bloated should, be receiving bonuses, particularly in the current climate with so many ordinary workers struggling to make ends meet.”
But NDA spokesman Bill Hamilton denied the bonuses were a waste of money. “We have achieved £450million in savings and need a bonus policy to attract and retain quality staff from the private sector familiar with the management of nuclear decommissioning projects.”
Rank and file staff received from 20 to 30 per cent of salary. The chief executive’s bonus was £85,000 and four other executive directors got a £50,000 bonus.
The NDA, whose national HQ is on Westlakes Science Park, denied one claim that a senior member of staff “had an objective that included a requirement to maintain a clear-desk policy”.

This is nothing new as the jobs and the bonuses were advertised in this Whitehaven News so we only had to do the maths. I did apply to the NDA but was unsuccessful however, remember you get what you pay for and these are not un-skilled process workers.
