The family of a woman who was allegedly murdered in her own home have paid tribute to a devoted wife and true friend.
Mary Annie Sowerby, known as Annie, died on Tuesday at her home in Main Street, Dearham.
In a statement, her family said: “Annie was tragically taken from her much-loved family on January 22, 2019.
“Devoted wife and soul mate to Lenny, mother of Lee and Daniel and mother-in-law to Faye. Nan to Evie, Daisy and Sonny who filled her life with joy and happiness. A much-loved sibling to her brother Garth and sisters to Helen, Elizabeth and Edna."
The family said Mrs Sowerby was "a true friend to many, often putting other people before herself and having a real passion for life."
They added: "Annie will be sincerely missed by all who loved her.
“Annie's family would like to thank everyone for their kind words and best wishes during this difficult time.”
Mrs Sowerby's son Lee Sowerby has been charged with her murder.
He appeared at Carlisle Crown Court this morning and the case has been adjourned.
