FOOTBALL fans once again celebrated all over town after a historic win for the Lions on Tuesday night.

Fans all across the county hit the pubs to watch England smash Germany 2-0 in what would be a game of epic revenge.

Pint's were flying all over Workington as Sterling and Kane hammered two second half goals into the back if the German nets at Wembley.

The match will see England progress onto the quarter finals against Ukraine this Saturday which will see landlords and fans alike happy to be out and watching the game again.

Parties and the chants of "It's coming home" echoed through the streets of Workington well into the early hours of the morning.

Junction Bar owner,Lloyd Burnie told of how positively the Euro's have affected the pub trade and atmosphere town.

Speaking ahead of the match on Tuesday, he said: "I just can't wait for another good day. It's what the pub trade needs, another full house.

"I just hope they win and we get another one on Saturday, and that will be another good day. Hopefully, we go right to the final, and then town will be mental."

Lloyd got his wish with seats for Saturday's quarter final match against the Ukraine already being booked up across many of the town's pubs.

It was also a good night for popular Workington club owner Jonny Donat, who screened the event in his latest venture, Soup Arena.

He said: "It was absolutely mad and probably one of the best days since Covid struck.

"It was amazing to see everybody so happy and enjoying themselves."
