TOWN councillors have called for a Speed Indicator Device to be installed on a dangerous section of road in Cockermouth.
A SID was installed on Lorton Road earlier this year.
The county council traffic management team leader asked the town council if it could "arrange a regular schedule of utilising the SID at Lorton Road and share it with the CRASH group?"
This was discussed at the latest town council meeting. Concern was expressed that the current pole was not sited in the best place to catch speeding vehicles.
It was decided that the data from the existing pole be gathered and shared. Members asked that an additional pole be requested and sited between Vicarage Lane and Skinner Street.
Councillor David Malloy said: "I think the quickest part of Cockermouth is by the railway bridge, so I think the SID is at the wrong end of road. This is going out of town.
"It needs to go between Vicarage Lane and Skinner Street to get people coming out of Towers Lane and Strawberry Grange."
