PLANS have been lodged to covert an office space into a beauty salon.

If a change of use planning application is approved, an office space at Lakeland Business Park in Lamplugh, Cockermouth will accommodate a beauty salon.

Bryony Miller of Elements Health and Beauty has submitted an application for the change of use of office 7H at the business park to relocate her business from Europe Way.

The business began on Station Street 18 years ago but was forced to downsize and run from a physiotherapist's room on Europe Way in 2016.

But Elements Health and Beauty is looking for a new home as the physio is retiring. If planning approval is given to convert the Cockermouth office space into a beauty salon, it will allow the business to continue within the owner's means.

In her supporting letter, the applicant said: "As the majority of my client base is older, having parking on site has been an invaluable asset for my clients and one that I wished to continue to offer.

"This obviously rules out the majority of units in the centre of town plus at this time in my career I don't wish to have to pay the higher rents for being on the Main Street that would also require more staff to man the premises.

"I have looked hard for alternative premises but have been unable to find anything small enough for me to use that has on-site parking until I found this unit in the Lakeland Business Park."

The public can view and comment on all applications submitted to Allerdale Borough Council for approval.

Comments of support or opposition will be taken into account when the planning panel decide whether to approve the plans.
