A report from the leader of the council on work under his portfolio reveals that the Taste of the Sea event held in Maryport on August 13 and 14 provided a significant economic boost.

Councillors will hear: “Helped by some great weather the event was more successful than last year.”

The council commissioned an independent evaluation of the event and it found that the economy received a boost of almost £1 million from the event, more than double last year’s contribution.

For each pound invested, the council made a return on investment of almost £25, also more than double last year’s figure.

The evaluation involved speaking to attendees and 85 per cent of those interviewed were visiting specifically for the festival, an increase of 65 per cent last year.

89 per cent of people interviewed said that this year’s event was an improvement on the last with attendees spending on average half an hour longer there than last year. It is also estimated that more locals attended this year.
