Allerdale Borough Council has teamed up with Workington Town Club to provide free tickets to local children so that they can go to the World Cup warm-up game in Workington next week.

On Friday October 7 Cumbria take on World Cup entrants Jamaica at a warm-up game at Derwent Park. The game starts at 7:45pm.

To provide local children with the opportunity to take part in the event, Allerdale Borough Council have given a grant of £5,000 to Workington Town to fund free tickets for kids to the match.

Workington players will be visiting community clubs and primary schools over the next few days to distribute up to 1,500 tickets.

Leader of Allerdale Borough Council, Councillor Mike Johnson, said: “I’m delighted to see the match between Cumbria Rugby League and the Jamaican Rugby League team taking place at the home of Workington Town RLFC, Derwent Park.”

“By providing the grant of £5,000, we hope to enable primary school children to take part in this exciting event for free.”
