FRESH air and exercise are two of the cornerstones of good health and children in one junior school are enjoying both.
Ewanrigg Junior School in Maryport has created a new outside gym which the children tried out for the first time last week.
School administrator Julie Moir said: "There are so many benefits to having our own school gym as it ensures children enjoy physical activity and new exercise as an essential part of everyday life."
There are no membership fees to this gym. It is conveniently located in the school grounds and is available all year round.
Mrs Moir said: "Children are having a full body work out and feel good fitness while having fun with their friends.
"This regular exercise increases energy levels, and improves mental health and relaxation. "
She said it can also improve self-esteem and other benefits too many to mention.
Despite foul weather, the gym was installed within a week.
The equipment offers the children a challenging workout using very different movement, and staff believe it is complimenting their learning.
"Hopefully we will see the children grow with confidence as they develop flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance while using the equipment," Mrs Moir said.
