Workington Bowling Club hosted the School’s Competition on Friday, March 10 after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
A thrilling final took place between Ashfield A and Ashfield B, with Ashfield B taking the trophy by just one point, 8 points to 7.
The competition began in 2011 to encourage young bowlers to take up the sport and has seen some continue to play at the club after the competition ends.
John Carruthers, organiser, said: ”The competition was set up by Doc Sewell, and the club has renamed the cup The Doc Sewell School’s Trophy to recognise his commitment to the children and bowling."
Club president Malcolm Smitham introduced the presentation while Doc presented the winning team with the cup for the school and an individual trophy to keep. All players were given an Easter egg.
Doc said: “It was a very close match, and everyone enjoyed themselves. It is an honour to have the competition named after me. I would also like to thank all the school staff and club volunteers for their support.”
