People in support of plans to create a skateboard/ bike track in Cockermouth are invited to a meeting later this month.

Sarah Stephens, who spoke at a recent council meeting in Cockermouth Town Hall, set up a Facebook group - Cockermouth Bike/Skate Park Supporters.

"There has been a good response, lots of people have joined the group and we've had lots of messages of support and offers of specific assistance," said Sarah, who has two children.

"We're going to get everyone together now and do the formal bit, setting up a community group.

"We need to form a committee."

The meeting will take place at Cockermouth RUFC, at Strawberry How, 6pm on Monday, April 24.

"It is a supporters' meeting, there will be consultation opportunities at later stages," said Sarah, who asked councillors at the Annual Parish Meeting to consider creating a skate/BMX park on publicly-owned land.

Various sites were suggested, including Towers Lane play area, the rear of Scouts Centre, Old Fire Station and Harris Park.
