A group of young children are being fed physically and mentally thanks to a one-off project that has become an ongoing partnership.

St Michaels's Infant and Nursery School was invited to take part in a project with St Michael's Church Mothers' Union.

Head teacher Candice Regan said the Mohers' Union contacted the school about 'Change Now,' a project the group was running.

"The mental health focus in our school this year is building connections, so this fitted in very well."

At its conclusion, the Mothers' Union asked if members could do something in return.

"That is where this story really beings," Mrs Regan said.

"A group of 12 children have visited the church each Friday during 'feel good' time, to meet the Mothers' Union ladies.

"They have done various activities. These have included, egg dumping at Easter, playing bingo, dominoes, and more.

"The children love going and have gained so many skills from these sessions, including, extending their vocabulary, networking with an older generation, turn-taking, to name a few.

"To help us in return, the Mothers' Union has collected food each week from local charities and the congregation at St. Michael's, which they give to the children during their weekly visits to restock our Community Pantry. Our Community Pantry continues to serve the families of St. Michael's School, providing free clothing, toys, food, and accessories."

Mrs Regan said: I am so grateful to the Mothers' Union for the wonderful opportunities that they continue to provide for the children.

"Together, we are proud to continue to strengthen our local connection. Our school motto is 'Together we Grow' and I believe that nicely describes in a nutshell exactly what we are achieving.
