PUPILS from a Workington school have undertaken their own twist on a Disney classic, coming together to put on a 'dazzling' performance.

Last week, students at St Joseph’s Catholic High School took to the stage bringing their own twist to Disney’s classic Aladdin.

Students of all ages from across the school undertook acting, backstage, and technical roles working collaboratively to bring the production to life.

Over the week, the students delivered seven performances, five of which were exclusive to local primary schools.

Students were tasked to design the set, props, lighting design and choreograph performances along with support from Performing Arts staff, mainly Miss Bayliss who has worked with the whole cast since Christmas on the production.

Max McAllister who adopted the lead role of Aladdin said: “I really enjoyed playing this role. It was great to perform to the primary schools to showcase the opportunities that are available at our school.”

Jessica Hudson, who worked tirelessly as the assistant director, also proudly said: “I am really proud of the whole cast who were amazing throughout the whole process. The opportunity to take on the role of assistant director allowed me to work alongside staff and students in a professional theatre setting.”

Each night saw impromptu comedy sketches from members of staff across the school.

During the second night’s performance, head teacher Mr Nevitt took to the stage wearing the school uniform and causing a nuisance for Mrs Williams.

Preparations will soon commence for next year’s performance with the planned title announced in the coming weeks.
