MAJOR road works will be in place across Seaton, as Cumberland Council work to improve infracture in the village.

Cumberland Council is pleased to inform the local community in Seaton that they will be investing a total of £165,000, for infrastructure improvements.

The council will be allocating the investment towards a comprehensive resurfacing programme and the replacement of life expired street lighting columns.

The work on Main Road, Seaton is scheduled to commence on Monday, July 31.

The works will stretch from Jackson Street to beyond the junction of Derwent Avenue. It is estimated that the project will take approximately two weeks to complete. During this period, there will be a full road closure in place.

The Highways team will be resurfacing 420 metres of the carriageway, covering an area of 3,190 square metres. The council will also be repairing potholes along the road.

In-house council teams and contractors will also be replacing several street lighting columns located between Calva Farm and the access to Derwent Bank. This will improve the lighting infrastructure in the area, ensuring better visibility and safety for pedestrians and vehicles.

Additionally, the team will install new school patrol equipment. This will include the installation of new school patrol signs and amber warning beacons. This road safety improvement will serve as a visual reminder for drivers to slow down and be cautious of children walking to and from Seaton Junior School.

During this time, the road will be fully closed for all vehicles, this means that there will not be a through route available between Workington and Seaton. A signed diversion route via Lowca Lane will allow alternative access to Seaton. This closure is necessary to carry out these essential maintenance works and to ensure the safety of all road users.

Access for residents who live adjacent to the works will be maintained whenever it is safe to do so. If any residents or businesses require access to their property, we kindly request that this is discussed with the Traffic Marshal who will be on site during the works.
