Cumbria Futures Federation head teacher Tom Hailwood described GCSE results day as 'a landmark day' for students and one they will long remember.

"It is with great pride the teachers, wider staff and everyone associated with the Federation hear of our students' results and see them moving successfully onto their next steps," he said.

Solway Community College in Silloth achieved pleasing results.

Jackson Slack is now going on to sixth form to study business, biology and PE after working hard and achieving a Grade 6 in geography and a distinction in BTEC sport.

Harry Carruthers is also looking forward to going on to sixth form to study psychology, biology and sociology having received a Grade 7 in history and Grade 6s in English and maths.

Cody Morris-Crawford is proud to achieve a Grade 7 in maths and now goes on to College, alongside Emily Graham who got a superb suite of results including Grade 6s in art and geography.

Brandon Maybury-Potter and Shannon Irwin are both going on to sixth form. Brandon is going on to study computing, geography, English language and psychology.

Shannon worked hard and achieved well in all her GCSEs and will be especially proud of her distinction in BTEC sport.

Beacon Hill School in Aspatria was also delighted with its results but one student stood out for special mention.

"Over his whole secondary school life, Owen Hoskins has shown an outstanding attitude to learning, showing a passion for knowledge," said Mr Hailwood.

"His perseverance has been exemplary.

"He is an incredibly well-focussed individual who will achieve great things in the future, well done to Owen and all our students."
