WORKINGTON MP Mark Jenkinson has returned to the government this week following Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's reshuffle.

Mr Jenkinson returned to government as an assistant chief whip, a post he also held during the premiership of former Prime Minister Liz Truss.

Mr Jenkinson said: "Last year I was one of the King’s first appointments as Government minister.

"I’m delighted to return to the front bench to deliver the government’s legislative agenda and the Prime Ministers five priorities."

It comes in the same week that neighbouring MP Trudy Harrison for Copeland announced that she would stand down from Government to focus on her constituency solely in her last months as an MP.

Mrs Harrison said it has been the 'greatest honour and experience' of her life serving under four Prime Ministers, but she plans to spend her final months in office dedicated to her constituency.
