WORKINGTON MP Mark Jenkinson has welcomed the opening of a new banking hub in Maryport, which he says will help the people of the town have access to more banking services than they 'have for decades'.
Cash Access UK, the organisation set up to protect nationwide access to cash, has confirmed that the new banking hub in Maryport will open at 11am on Friday, November 24.
Maryport’s Banking Hub is located at 115/117 Senhouse Street, a former NatWest branch, and will be officially opened by Mark Jenkinson, MP for Workington.
The Hub, when it opens, will offer a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks and building societies can carry out regular cash transactions.
Workington MP Mark Jenkinson said: "When I was elected in 2019, I stood on a platform of breathing life back into our town centres like Maryport - and that’s what we’re doing.
"When the TSB closed, a voluntary Banking Hub scheme was launched ahead of the government mandated scheme now in place for the last bank closure. On the day the scheme opened I was the first MP to request a review and we’re one of the first constituencies to see an open Banking Hub.
"Maryport now has access to more banking services than it has done for decades, complementing the amazing revival across the town.
"I am grateful to Cash Access UK, to the landlord and to everyone that took part in the consultation for making this happen."
The bank will also offer a Community Banker service where customers can talk to their own banking provider about more complicated issues, Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm.
Community Bankers will work on rotation, with a different bank available on each day of the week:
Monday: NatWest
Tuesday: HSBC
Wednesday: Halifax
Thursday: TSB
Friday: Barclays
Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK: “We are pleased to announce that the Maryport Banking Hub will be opening on 24th November. This is the first in Cumbria and I hope it will be welcome news as local people and businesses begin to plan for Christmas.”
