PUPILS from a Maryport primary school will be raising money for a Workington charity this weekend, with a special car wash.

Children from Ellenborough Academy have joined forces with Gleeson Homes on the Bright Stars 2023 scheme, opening their own social enterprise to raise funds for Andy's Man Club

The car wash will take place at the school from 9am on Saturday, December 9 with people being asked to come and support the fundraising effort.

Year Two teacher at Ellenborough Academy , Dayle Ashbridge said: "We are so proud of the hard working and kind children at our school. The children have been dedicated to this years Bright Stars 2023 brief ‘make a profit and make a difference.’

"The children were certain that they would like to help those in their local community and together with David from Gleeson homes, they were able to provide a service to our local community as well as supporting a charity that aids the well-being of others.

"The children across two classes have shown real team work, commitment and creativity and have been committed to ensuring their business has been successful."

Land director at Gleeson Homes, David Wright said: “Gleeson Homes are proud to be partnering with Ellenborough Academy in Maryport.

"I was blown away about how creative the kids could be in developing their business plan, exploring what a business is and what they needed to do to make their business succeed.

"As a social enterprise they will be raising money for Andy Man’s Club as even at their young age they appreciate the importance of mental health and how important it is to express your feelings.

"It would be fantastic if local businesses could help them raise more money for a worthy cause and sponsor a car wash.”
