WORKINGTON Town Ladies have been spreading their own little brand of magic to people this festive period.

Staff and players from the Workington Town Ladies RLFC raised funds for toys, toiletries and clothing for the children's ward in West Cumberland hospital at Whitehaven, delivering the £800 worth of goodies to the staff at the ward on Thursday, December 21 just in time for Christmas.

The ladies had organised a go fund me page to raise funds for the project, before wrapping and delivering the gifts to be taken to the ward last week.

Workington Town Ladies RLFC team manager, Sue Grimley said: "We decided to do something and raise funds for the children's ward as a couple of us at Town ladies have had kids in there, we got nearly £800.

"A few of us wrapped things up and then we delivered it all to children's ward, we go things for parent's if they are having to stay on the ward, we got the ward staff some things and also children's baby grows and pyjamas.

"All the gifts we got donated were amazing, and then obviously we added and bought more."

The ladies had to create a makeshift sleigh from a porters trolley to get their gifts and goodies up to the ward.

Sue said: "They were unbelievable, they were blown out of this world with the amount of things we had, we had to get a trolley from a porter to take everything we had up from the entrance to the children's ward.

"They were really amazed by how much we had got donated and just so grateful for everything, it was just brilliant."

As well as players from the Workington Town Ladies, staff also ventured to the hospital to deliver the gifts, this included Head Coach Steve Caton.

Talking about the fundraising and donations, Steve said the support had been unbelievable and that the group would definitely be doing something similar next year.

Steve said: "We will definitely be donating to another local charity next year we haven’t decided which one yet."
