DRIVERS in Workington are being warned they could face prosecution for ignoring a road closure sign in the town- after reports people have been ignoring the diversionary route and travelling through roadworks.
Castle Gardens is currently partially closed for road works, with police becoming concerned following reports drivers in the tow are breaching the road closure notice.
In a statement on social media, Allerdale police said: "We are aware of drivers entering Workington contravening the Road Closed sign at Castle Gardens in Workington.
"Road users are asked to comply with this request and use the diversionary route in place. Anyone found contravening this closure will face the risk of prosecution.
"We can confirm that traffic is currently allowed to travel through the roadworks leaving Workington in the direction of Lillyhall.
"Drivers have been reported contravening the road closed signs and travelling in the opposite direction which is currently closed."
