YOUNG adults in Workington have taken part in a community project charity fundraiser.

A group of young people involved in the Prince's Trust have collectively cycled the distance of the Coast to Coast and climbed 29,000 feet as a team at the Better Gym in Workington.

An organisation called RV Projects is delivering the Prince's Trust to people in the area as part of a 12-week programme.

It is about working with unemployed 16-25-year-olds and gaining them a Level 1 qualification in employment, teamwork, and community skills, leading to employment or further education.

A spokesperson said: "The team decided to complete the 195-mile Coast to Coast at Workington Better Leisure Centre using their cardio equipment.

"Which they did in just 4 hours between them. Before the event, the team did research and made a map so they could keep track of how far along they were, and how long they had left.

"It went amazingly and ended up doing 200 miles, they have raised more than expected by asking family and friends and also by advertising on social media."

The Prince's Trust is aimed at giving children and young people the confidence to prosper in their chosen career paths.

The campaign has helped around one million people. Some of whom have gone on to become health workers, sports coaches, youth workers, fashion designers, builders, and business owners.

They continued: "So far, they have raised almost £500 and will be using the money to help renovate the male dressing room and also the kitchen in the Theatre Royal.

"They have chosen this as part of their community project to put something back into the local area.

"Any money that they've raised will go towards renovating those.

"They have planned, designed, and purchased all materials needed for their projects. We can send over before and after pictures once these have been completed.

"On the Prince's Trust Teams Course, we do a lot to give back to the local community."
