AN HISTORIC Cockermouth building will go to auction next month with a guide price of almost £1million.
Castle Brewery on Brewery Lane, Cockermouth, formerly home of the Jennings Brewery company, will be sold at an online auction by Auction House on March 12.
The sale will mark the end of an era for one of Cockermouth's most iconic buildings, with the brewery being loved by many in the town.
It was announced in September 2022 that the brewery, which had been in operation for close to 200 years, would close its doors, with owners Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Company moving their operations to Staffordshire in the same month.
The 63,125 sq ft site will now be sold at an online auction with a guide price of £900,000 being given on the property.
The lot comprises of the brewery complex of various buildings, including a five storey Grade-II listed building with lapsed planning permission for conversion to residential.
The property is situated on a substantial plot of land measuring approximately 1.73 acres (7,001 sq m).
Potential buyers have been informed by the auctioneers that 'part of the property, the former maltings building, was previously granted listed building consent in 2012 for the conversion to residential to create 16 flats (two and three beds) which has now lapsed'.
