A maker’s market is coming to West Cumbria later this month, showcasing a range of crafts.

The Lorton Makers’ Market, on March 30 from 1.30pm to 4.30pm at Yew Tree Hall, aims to please everyone with a range of crafts such as basket weaving, sign artistry, fabric craft, jewellery making, knitting, soapmaking, ceramics, and more.

The event is free to enter and organisers – Arwen Heaton and Lee Smith of Lorton Village Shop – ask patrons to pay with cash only due to unreliable internet meaning card readers may not work.

There will also be performances from the Wild Chorus choir to life spirits throughout the afternoon, as well as crafting demonstrations and refreshments available from the shop a few minutes’ walk away.

Ms Heaton said the decision to hold the fair came after she and other small business owners – makers who have their products sold in the shop – were struggling financially, and this was a way to boost their profiles.

“It’s about giving them bigger platforms,” she added.
