A WORKINGTON couple have had their own 'perfect' day tying the knot in the Cumberland Infirmary last week.
John and Lisa Woods got married at the Cumberland Infirmary last Friday, March 15 surrounded by family and friends.
John, 42, from Egremont and Lisa (formerly Briscoe), 40, from Workington, met 11 years ago when John added Lisa as a friend on Facebook.
John has been suffering with failing health for the past few years and has been cared for at the Cumberland Infirmary since suffering a number of strokes late last year.
Over the past few months he has been on and off end-of-life care in the hospital, with the family staying at the hospital or travelling through regularly to see John through his health struggles.
John's sister Brenda Hoey spoke to John and Lisa following John being placed on end-of-life care last Wednesday morning, with the couple deciding now was the time to be married.
The couple were wed in John's hospital room surrounded by friends and family. Brenda has thanked all the staff at the hospital and Leanne Watters for all the help that they have given both in recent weeks and with the wedding.
Speaking to the Times & Star, Brenda said: "I don't know how we did it in less than 24 hours but we did. The nurses on that ward - Emily, Rosie and the ward manager Rob - they were absolutely amazing, they put lights up in the room on the wedding day, a cake brought up, they were absolutely outstanding. They have been absolutely brilliant with us as well.
"I know it wasn't the ideal perfect wedding with the white dress and all that stuff, but it was perfect in every other way, it really was. When I walked in and seen John done up in a tie and stuff I said, 'you look beautiful John'."
John has since been taken off end-of-life and although still very poorly, the family have found comfort in the fact he has married his much-loved long-term partner Lisa.
Speaking about the wedding, Lisa said: "The day was brilliant and special thanks to the staff at the hospital on the ward and to his sister Brenda.
"It was a lovely ceremony and it made me and John feel so special and loved and supported by many that joined us on Facebook Live."
