It's Easter time and many of us will be getting a few days off work, so why not go to your local cinema and see what they have on offer? 

Cinemas across Cumberland are showing a range of different films, including new blockbusters and much-loved classics. 

Here are five films showing this week....

Mary Poppins

This 1964 classic is still surely one of the most magical things committed to celluloid. It stars Julie Andrews in her feature film debut as the titular Ms Poppins, a mystical nanny who visits a dysfunctional family in London and employs her unique brand of self-help tips to improve their lives.

The film received 13 Oscar nominations.

Mixing animation and live action, plus a number of barnstorming musical numbers, the film is now being re-released to mark its 60th anniversary. Don't miss your chance to see it on the silver screen.

Showing at Vue Carlisle on Friday and subsequent days at 12.25pm.

Hamlet starring Ian McKellen + Q&A

Workington's excellent Parkway cinema is showing all the latest releases but in amongst the schedule there's also this - a chance to see a Shakespearean classic, performed in a theatre but filmed for the screen, with one of our greatest ever thespians in the title role.

Two-time Academy Award nominee Ian McKellen stars in this 'thrilling and uniquely modern' take on The Bard's classic tragedy. The screening will include an exclusive recorded Q&A with Sir Ian and director Sean Mathias.

Showing at the Workington Parkway on Saturday, March 30 at 7pm

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Vue Carlisle has been showing all the classic 'Indy' films over the past few weeks, and it's been a joy to catch the likes of Raiders of the Lost Ark on the big screen. Friday, March 29 and Sunday, March 31 will see showings of the latest Indiana instalment, 2023's Dial of Destiny.

Harrison Ford is back in the saddle as Indy, and there's supporting turns from Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen and Toby Jones.

Showing at Vue Carlisle on Friday at 7.30pm and Sunday 5pm.

Immaculate 

If you're a horror fan, then this new release is for you. 

The film stars woman-of-the-moment Sydney Sweeney as Sister Cecilia who turned to religion at a young age after she nearly drowned. She receives an invitation to join an exclusive convent in Italy. Whilst there she notices certain oddities and the story begins to grow more terrifying...

It will be shown in cinemas across Cumberland area. 

Perfect Days

If you're reading this before Thursday, March 28, you're in luck - you've still got a chance to catch Wim Wenders' beautiful new film at Rheged cinema near Penrith.

Winner of the Best Actor award at Cannes 2023, Koji Yakusho stars as Hirayama, a contemplative middle-aged man who lives a life of modesty and serenity, spending his days balancing his job as a dutiful caretaker of Tokyo’s numerous public toilets with his passion for music, literature and photography.

Showing at Rheged on Wednesday, March 27 at 1pm and Thursday, March 28 at 7pm
