AN ‘EXTREMELY drunk’ man removed from a bar refused to leave the area and offered to fight police officers.
Joshua Nicholson, 27, was asked to leave Padua’s bar in Workington in the early hours of February 25 ‘due to being too intoxicated’, West Cumbria Magistrates’ Court heard.
Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said the defendant’s behaviour started causing issues outside. He had tried to get back inside ‘multiple times’.
Nicholson continued with the behaviour after police had arrived. He was ‘aggressive’ towards officers and was ‘extremely drunk’.
Members of the public and door staff had spent and hour and a half trying to get him to leave the area.
During police interview, Nicholson admitted he was ‘carrying on’ and asking the officers for a fight. He believed he had been struck by several people.
Ms Fee said the defendant had a ‘lengthy record’ and was last in court in December 2023 when he was given a suspended sentence order.
When asked if he had anything to say about the offence, Nicholson, who was not legally represented, said: “I’m sorry.”
Nicholson, of Mona Road, Salterbeck, Workington, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly.
The case was committed to Carlisle Crown Court for sentence to tie in with another case. The defendant will be sentenced on April 4.
