A NORTH Cumbrian man has appeared before a Carlisle court charged with seven  burglaries and five alleged thefts.

Nathan Stewart, 27, whose address was not provided in court, declined to enter any pleas when he appeared before District Judge John Temperley at Carlisle’s Rickergate court via a video link.

The case was sent to Carlisle Crown Court for a plea hearing on May 3. The allegations faced by the defendant are:

  • A house burglary on October 1 last year at Woodsghyll Drive, Carlisle, involving the theft of a bike and keys to a BMW 1 series car.
  • A house burglary at Upperby Road, Carlisle, on October 3 last year, during which the keys to a Volkswagen Amarok were stolen.
  • A house burglary at Park Close, Penrith, on October 10 last year, when the keys to Peugeot 208 car were stolen.
  • A further burglary at Park Close on October 10, when the keys to a Golf GTD were stolen.
  • A third house burglary with intent to steal in Park Close, Penrith, on October 11 last year.
  • A house burglary at Whinnie House Park, Penrith, on October 20 last year when the keys to a Volkswagon Tiguan were stolen.
  • And a house burglary at Heysham Meadows, Carlisle, on October 20, 2023, when a handbag was stolen.

The four alleged thefts relate to the vehicles whose keys were stolen – the VW Golf GTD, the BMW 1 Series, the Volkswagen Amarok, and the Volkswagen Tiguan.

District Judge Temperley said that for legal reasons the alleged offences had to be dealt with by the crown court. He remanded the defendant in custody until his next court appearance.

The defendant's address has previously been given as Shaddongate, Carlisle.
