A ONCE glorious West Cumbrian town pub is being brought back to life by a couple who hope to ‘return it to it’s former glory’.
Adam Goulbourn, 30, and partner Abbi Williams,27, have taken over the Brown Cow on Main Street in Cockermouth, opening their doors to locals on Sunday, April 9.
The owners are hoping to return the club to its former glory, after hearing about the Brown Cow through neighbours and friends when they first moved to Cockermouth around four years ago.
Adam said: “We have lived in Cockermouth for four years now, we moved just before the covid lockdown, we were talking to some of our neighbours and stuff like that and they just kept mentioning about the Brown Cow.
“Apparently back in the day it was kid of ‘the pub’ which is what most of the locals said yesterday, they came in we had a bit of a crack and they said this used to be the pub in Cockermouth, so basically the idea of taking this pub on is to return it to its former glory.
“That is going to be a big ask, especially with hospitality the way it is at the minute, it’s very up and down with costs and stuff like that but we are definitely motivated to try and bring it back to where it should be.”
The owners have said there have been very good comments throughout the opening process and have big plans for the future of the pub, hoping to organise quiz nights and live music.
Adam said: “We are looking into different avenues, so we want to do a quiz night, that is pretty much the staple for every pub nowadays, we are going to be doing live music Friday nights and Saturday nights, it’s a massive place and perfect area near the pool table, where we can just push that to the side and have a whole five piece band there if we wanted.”
The pair have worked in hospitality for a number of years with much experience, however it will be their first time as landlords with Adam saying they are ‘so excited’.
He said: "I met with a few of the locals, and have had a talk with them about our ambitions for the pub and they seem to have accepted me."
