COASTGUARD teams were called to Workington after a dog had gotten over banking and found itself trapped, with the owner potentially putting themselves at risks to rescue it.
Whitehaven Rescue Coastguard Team were called yesterday evening, April 14 after a reports a dog had jumped over banking at Salterbeck.
In a statement, Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said: "We were tasked yesterday evening by our Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Belfast Coastguard to reports of a dog which had gotten over and trapped on banking at Salterbeck Workington, with the potential of the owner going to put themselves at risk to rescue it.
"We attended with our rope rescue equipment, along with colleagues from Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team & Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service.
"As we arrived on scene, we were stood down and informed the dog had safely been recovered and was back with its owner.
"Please remember, whilst we are a nation of animal lovers, the Coastguard are trained, equipped and here to conduct rope and water rescue or your fury friends also.
"This ensures no human life is put at risk of injury or worse."
