A YOUNG West Cumbrian sports team have been supporting a worth West Cumbria charity campaign in memory of a much loved 18 year old.

Walk for Lloyd was set up in memory of 18-year-old Lloyd Sutton from High Harrington, Workington following his death from bacterial meningitis on October 21 last year.

Following his death, a group of Lloyd's friends came together to try and raise awareness around meningitis, and funds for charity Meningitis Now- deciding they would aim to tackle all 214 Wainwright fells during 2024.

Last weekend, members of the Workington Junior's Football Club under 8's team joined the Walk for Lloyd group on a sponsored walk up Ling Fell and Sale Fell.

The team were doing a sponsored walk to raise funds for their squad alongside their parents, but kindly agreed to donate half of the funds raised to Meningitis Now on behalf of 'Walk for Lloyd'.

In a statement, Workington Juniors said: "Superb to see our U8s Squad joining the Walk for Lloyd campaign. With some settled weather, the kids headed up Ling Fell with their parents to raise money for the squad as well as for Lloyd's campaign who are completing all the Wainwrights to raise money for Meningitis Now.

"Well done to the whole squad for their efforts."

The team at Walk for Lloyd said they wished to pay a very special thank you to the under 8's for taking part in the walk and raising money for the vital charity.
