A NEW gay bar will open this week in a West Cumbrian town as it hopes to bring 'something a bit different' to the nightlife scene in the area.
Rewind bar, which was formerly Soul Suite will open tomorrow, April 26 as a gay bar for the town, the only one of it's kind in Workington.
Manager Rhys Cavanagh, 22, from Workington who works for the building owners Lloyd Burnie in his bar The Junction on Jane Street had the idea re-open Rewind as a gay bar after seeing a gap in the market for something different in the area.
Rhys said "We just kind of thought Workington needed something like this really, we are going to have drag acts and things.
"I do drag myself so myself so I will be doing drag behind the bar and music and things. Hopefully it will bring a bit more inclusivity and better vibes.
"There's different kind of things opening in Whitehaven (on the nightlife scene) like Rodeo's and I just think we need something."
The new bar has been refurbished ahead of the opening with the same layout as before, with the opening creating excitement in the town.
Rhys said: "We have redecorated and everything, it is still the same layout as previously but it has been completely refurbed."
"There has been a lot of excitement really, everybody has been messaging saying this is exactly what the town needs."
The bar will open on Friday, April 26 with some special drink deals a singer and drag queen travelling from Carlisle set to entertain crowds at the venue.
