AS the Golden Apples Awards return to the county for 2024, celebrating all the best Cumbria has to offer in the education sector, organisers Newsquest Cumbria are delighted to announce some changes to the prestigious event.

This year the awards have been 'changed up' with a new host, Mike Zeller, and Castle Green Hotel in Kendal will be the impressive venue.

The awards recognise individuals and organisations across Cumbria for their stellar achievements, acknowledging the power education has to transform lives, communities and the wider economy.

The awards’ headline sponsor is once again the University of Cumbria and category sponsors are Cumbria Education Trust, Energy Coast UTC, Lakes College West Cumbria, Furness College, BAE and NRL.

Newsquest Cumbria Sales Director, Emily Wood, said: "We are delighted to change the awards up this year and bring them to the south of our wonderful county at the fabulous Castle Green Hotel with a brand new host in Mike Zeller.

"The Golden Apples are always a fantastic chance to recognise all the best students, teachers and leaders in our thriving  education sector and every year we are blown away with the quality of nominations."

Newsquest Cumbria would like to extend their thanks to Mike Parr who has hosted the awards over the last few years.

We’d like to take a moment to talk about our Charity Partner the NSPCC. The NSPCC makes a huge difference to the lives of the children and young people they support, particularly through their Childline Service which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to give children and young people a voice when no-one else is listening.

There are so many issues facing children and young people with Childline receiving a call from a young person every 45 seconds on average. From these calls mental and emotional health and wellbeing remains a top concern for children and young people.

Every penny we raise will help Childline give children and young people the help they so desperately need. Thank you all for helping us support such a vital Charity.
