A Penrith community group has launched its new 'pay ahead' project.

The project has been launched by the Penrith-based group Purple Footprint which aims to reduce loneliness and connect all age groups in the community.

To make the project, which will see people pay in advance for snacks and drinks at local cafes, possible the group has partnered with Penrith's Cosy Cup Cafe, Arturo Lounge, and Three Crowns Tea Room.

News and Star: Cameron Stewart is the founder of Purple Footprint and explained more about what the new project is all about.

He said: "Our idea is intended for everyone who may be having a difficult day and needing a boost and company to feel connected to their community.

"Each business has a chalkboard where people can buy a drink or snack then someone else can enjoy an item.

"We hope it will inspire them to buy for someone else and visit the business again if they haven’t before.

"It’s a great way to promote local businesses, helping local people."

News and Star: Cameron also detailed the benefits that he hopes the community will get from the project and revealed that the group has already received positive feedback.

He said: "We hope many people in Penrith will benefit from this great idea to give people a boost during a tough day or time and a feeling of connection to their community.

"I’ve already had some lovely feedback from a new resident to the town who loves the idea, as a way to meet new people."
