Roads across Cumbria have been closed, as heavy rain has caused flash flooding.

A warning has been issued for motorists to drive with caution - and never to drive through standing water, as they may not know the depth.

Highways England this afternoon confirmed that the A590 has been closed in both directions, between the A591 at Brettargh Holt and the A6 at Levens, due to surface water causing hazardous driving conditions.

A spokesman said: "Road users are being diverted via local routes currently, however these conditions are affecting a number of local roads also."
