A Lakeland landscape painter moves away from the style in his latest exhibition, on show in Cockermouth this week.

David Sims is a painter based in Cumbria, although always associated with gritty Northern landscapes, David’s first instinct was towards abstraction.

Revisiting, which is on display at Gallery Artemis until Saturday October 22, sees him return to abstract art.

His 60s art education concentrated on the basics – drawing, life and anatomy, composition, technique, materials and an understanding and practice in a selection of craft. This depth of study gave David a lifelong foundation that has been invaluable throughout a long career in design and now enables him to easily revisit abstraction.

Typically, David's paintings are usually in gouache, built up in layers of differing and subtly applied textures.

David’s paintings are collected by enthusiasts of Cumbria and the Lake District, who like himself, find the region truly inspirational.

Revisiting will be on display at Gallery Artemis, in Cockermouth, until October 22.
