Jazz and swing orchestra the La'al Big Band will perform a charity concert in the Lake District this July.

The Cumbrian-based band, which has been known to feature up to 19 members on stage, appear at the Theatre by the Lake on Sunday 23, in a concert organised by the Rotary Club of Keswick, to raise funds for the Hospice at Home charity.

The band formed in April 2011 with the aim of providing West Cumbria and the Lake District with its own jazz and swing orchestra, combining saxophone, trumpet, trombone and rhythm players as well as vocalists, to perform music from the golden age of the big bands up to the present day.

Since then it has received rave reviews, with regular appearances on BBC Radio Cumbria and songs from their latest CD, The Big Band Theory, featuring on BBC Radio 2's Claire Teal Show.

La’al Big Band have played their classic and contemporary arrangements of Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and Amy Winehouse among others at numerous functions and weddings, as well as events such as Maryport Blues Festival and Morecambe Jazz Festival.

Relive the golden age of big bands with arrangements from the libraries of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Nelson Riddle and many more in this two-hour energy packed show.

Featuring the vocals of Sara Creeney and Nick King, the band presents its exciting new show at this charity concert - a celebration of musical history, and the great bandleaders, arrangers and performers of the 20th century and beyond.

It will be compered by BBC Radio's Harry King.

There will be a "lucky programme" draw on the night and a charity collection.

The concert in Keswick on July 23 starts at 7.30pm, and tickets priced £16, £13 and £10 are available from the Theatre by the Lake box office. All proceeds will be donated to Hospice at Home.
