Cockermouth Harmonic Society will perform in town next week.
The 60-strong choir will be perform Brahms’ A German Requiem in Christ Church, Gallowbarrow.
A spokesman said: "Taking words from psalms and other Bible passages, the music is dramatic and moving, having a wide range of impacts on the listener.
"The choir will also sing four Bruckner motets and Rheinberger’s Stabat Mater. These haunting and simple works contrast well with the intensity of the Brahms."
Ian Wright, the choir’s new music director, will conduct the choir and the soloists, Charlotte Jackson, soprano, and Paul Im Thurn, bass-baritone. Ian Hare will play the organ accompaniment.
The concert is at 7.30pm on Saturday, January 27. Tickets (£12, free for full-time students) are available from Billy Bowman’s music shop in Lowther Went or Janet Johnston (01900 825083).
