A Workington community choir is preparing to take the stage at the town's Theatre Royal.

Soundwave Community Choir will hold a summer concert on Sunday, August 20.

Claire Humes, choir leader, said: "There will be a huge range of music, we cover all sorts of genres and the concert should make for a really nice and easy listening.

"The choir is open to anyone regardless of their age or ability, it's about providing a fun experience and the joy of singing."

The concert, which is expected to last around 45 minutes, will start at 4pm and refreshments will follow.

The choir was set up less than a year ago and Claire said it has gone from strength to strength, attracting around 30 members.

Claire said: "It's been going really well, we have people from various parts of West Cumbria and people are joining all the time. It's very open and we'd like to attract more members too.

"I hope members enjoy themselves at the performance and that this is transferred to the audience. It should appeal to all age groups, it's not stuck in one particular type of music. I want everybody to come along and have a nice enjoyable Sunday afternoon."

Tickets cost £4 and will be available on the door.

Soundwave, which also runs a youth club and music projects for young people, also has a performance lined up at The Hub.

Carnival drums performers Bang Gang will be entertaining the crowds on September 2.
