A free course is on offer for people interested in bees.
The Cockermouth Beekeeping Association will be running the eight-week course which it hopes will help boost membership numbers.
Secretary Peter Weatherill said: "It is an introduction to beekeeping, but the main aim is to give more information about these incredible creatures that are responsible for so much of what we eat every day.
"The course is theory based, we will not be handling bees, but at the end of the course you want to take it forward we will allocate you to one of our members who will act as a mentor and will give you some practical experience of beekeeping."
The association has about 20 members. The course will start at 7pm on Tuesday, January 23, at Hundith Hill Hotel, Cockermouth.
