Residents across the whole of Cumbria are being placed on alert for potentially heavy snow next week.

The Met Office has issued two yellow warnings for snow for Tuesday and Wednesday.

The first one comes into effect just after midnight on Tuesday and runs until 11.55pm that night.

Another comes into force just after midnight on Wednesday and runs until 11.55pm.

The warnings cover the whole of the county.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: "Snow showers or longer periods of snow are expected on Tuesday.

"There is the potential for travel delays on roads, with some stranded vehicles and passengers, as well as delays or cancellations to rail and air travel.

"Some rural communities could become cut off. Power cuts may also occur and other services, such as mobile phones, may be affected.

There is uncertainty in the extent of snow, the Met Office say.

However, there is the potential for between 5cm to 10 cm of snow in places where showers become more frequent.

A similar situation is expected to play out on Wednesday.

Speaking of Wednesday, the spokesman added that there is the potential for 10cm to 15cm of snow.
