Carbon monoxide poisoning could be linked to the death of a man in Seaton yesterday.

The fire service confirmed it responded to a report of a carbon monoxide alarm at a property in High Seaton at around midday.

A 67-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 70-year-old woman was taken to the West Cumberland Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

A spokesman for Cumbria Fire And Rescue Service said: "Crews used two breathing apparatus and one gas detector to monitor the carbon monoxide levels."

The death is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner has been informed.
