Police have put up warning signs after ice is believed to have caused a three vehicle crash in west Cumbria.

Motorists faced delays across the north and west of the county this morning after three separate crashes.

At about 8.30am, emergency services were called to Arlecdon Road, in Frizington.

Three vehicles were involved - Honda Accord, a Ford Fiesta and a Peugeot - with at least one person injured.

A police spokesman told the News & Star : "It is believed icy conditions may have played a part and ‘police slow’ warning signs have been posted in area to advise motorists."

A spokesman for Cumbria County Fire and Rescue Service confirmed fire crews were called to the incident.

They made the scene safe and provided initial medical treatment.

The injured man is believed to have suffered leg injuries and was taken by ambulance to the West Cumberland Hospital.

It was one of three crashes during rush hour this morning.

Police were called to an incident on the A596, Dearham at about 6.45am.

The collision, near the junction with The Went, involved two vans and partially blocked the eastbound side.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said there were no injuries, but there were delays until the vehicles were cleared at about 7.20am.

The third crash happened at about 8.35am on one of Carlisle's busiest roads.

The collision, on Aglionby Street - off Warwick Road - involved two cars: a Mercedes and a Honda Accord.

There was no obstruction but there were some traffic delays.

A police spokesman added: "An ambulance attended to check both drivers but believe neither driver required hospital."
